I've never thought too much of the "tagging" feature on Facebook until reading articles on Folksonomies. It's actually pretty interesting.
I've added numerous alblums to my Facebook profile, and "tag" my friends. I also like that they can tag me.
It's also nice that you can go to a friend's profile and see all the pictures that others have tagged of them. It's creative, and you don't have to be friends with the origonal person who posted the photos.
MySpace recently added the tagging feature, although it's not as popular as Facebook's, at least that's my impression.

What exactly is tagging? I am still confused about this. I mean how do you actually do it in facebook, and how is it different than simply labeling your pictures? I need to research further, but I was hoping someone could give me an example, I feel a little stupid right now.
Dana,
Click to see a Flickr photo with tags.
To the left of the photo, you will see tags. Clicking on one of those tags will take you to all of the user's photos with that tag.
When you are at the page with the user's collection of photos all using that particular tag, you will see a hyperlink at the top left inviting you to see everyone's photos with that tag.
Clicking on that will allow you to see everyone on Flickr who has that same tag. There's the social part - others who have used the same tag. Some tags return thousands of hits, some tags return a few hits. Some tags represent certain groups of people, for example, those who collect Dolfie dolls (they'll tag the photos of their dolls with Dolfie, obviously)
I think I need to know what you mean by "label" in order to tell you the difference (if there is one).
Make that "to the right of the photo."
I don't feel like deleting my post and starting over, and Blogger = fail when it comes to editing posts.
I agree, Krystle. Myspace just sucks.
I like the tagging application on Facebook, but I get a little concerned by people who are tagged in over 1000 pictures. How do you make an appearance in that many photos?
I like tagging to but I have rarely done it myself. But I'm quick to use other people's as a search guide. Guess I need to start returning the favor.
